Yolanda’s Story – A Calling to Hospice Care
YOLANDA S. GARZA, B.A. Sociology
Medical Social Worker
With over 20 years of experience as a high school educator and a background in Sociology, I bring a deep understanding of human connection, communication, and compassion to my role as a medical social worker in hospice care. Although I’m a newcomer to the hospice field professionally, my personal journey caring for both of my parents during their end-of-life experiences profoundly shaped my calling. The hospice team not only guided me through their physical care but also supported me through the emotional and spiritual aspects of grief and healing.
That experience ignited a passion in me to serve others during one of life’s most sacred transitions. I believe my faith in God has led me to this work, ensuring that every patient is treated with dignity, respect, and love, and that their wishes are honored. It is my privilege to walk alongside families and patients, offering support, advocacy, and comfort in times of need.
Our Mission
Providing compassionate care for individuals living with a life-limiting illness and their families, through quality medical, emotional, spiritual, social, and community support.
Eligibility
Anyone with a serious illness who doctors believe has a short time to live—generally 6 months or less—usually qualifies for hospice care. For Medicare to pay for hospice care, patients must stop medical treatments intended to cure or control their illness.
